อ่านเรื่องหนังสือเล่มใหม่ของ Obama จาก Politico เจอเรื่องการเปรียบเทียบระหว่าง Obama กับ Lincoln (อย่างตั้งใจด้วยตัวของ Obama เอง) คิดว่าเป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจดี
POLITICO There’s no doubt the kind of presidency he wanted. In his rise to power, Obama and his surrogates frequently invoked Lincoln language and imagery and encouraged the belief that one Illinois politician was a kind of historical descendant of the other. The suggestion was that the president who freed African Americans from bondage was linked in some mystical way with the first African American to rise to the presidency.
Obama set the high bar for himself in A Promised Land in a second way: as a writer. No president since Lincoln had risen to the office so tightly harnessed to the power of words. Just as the 1858 debates with Stephen A. Douglas and the 1860 Cooper Union speech vaulted Lincoln to national power, Obama’s 2004 Democratic keynote address turned him almost instantly into a global celebrity.
