อ่านบทความจาก Nikkei เรื่องจีนกับไวรัสโคโรนา COVID-19 ก็พบว่าในประเทศจีนมันมีประเด็นเรื่อง “ปีต้องสาบ” ที่ลงท้ายด้วยเลข 9 อยู่ อธิบายง่ายๆ คือปีที่ลงท้ายด้วยเลข 9 (นับตั้งแต่การตั้งสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนในปี 1949) ถือเป็นปีที่ไม่ดี และจะมีเหตุร้ายแรงเกิดขึ้น

ส่วนเหตุการณ์ในปี 2019 ที่เกิดขึ้น (มองย้อนกลับไปจากปี 2020) มีทั้งเรื่อง Trade War, ประท้วงที่ฮ่องกง และไวรัสโคโรนาช่วงปลายปี (เดือนธันวาคม)
เรื่องพวกนี้เป็นกึ่งๆ myth และการคัดเลือกเหตุการณ์มาเข้าข่าย “ปีต้องสาบ” ก็ค่อนข้าง selective (บางอันก็แบบเกี่ยวตรงไหน เช่น ปี 1999 ไม่เห็นมีอะไรเลย)
แต่ผู้นำสูงสุดอย่าง สีจิ้นผิง ดันมาเตือนเรื่องนี้อย่างเป็นทางการในสปีชของเขาช่วงต้นปี 2019 ด้วย เขาไม่ได้พูดเรื่องปีลงท้ายด้วยเลข 9 ตรงๆ แต่ใช้คำพูดว่าให้ระวัง ‘black swan’ หรือเหตุการณ์ที่ไม่คาดฝันแทน ซึ่งก็มาเกิดขึ้นจริงๆ ช่วงปลายปี 2019 นั่นเอง
